A ceremony for the LNG bunkering vessel KEYS Azalea was held on the finish of March 2024 on the Yamatomachi Shipyard of Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in Yamaguchi Prefecture to mark the vessel’s supply. Officers from KEYS Bunkering West Japan Company (KEYS) and Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MLIT) attended and prayed for the vessel’s protected voyage.
KEYS, a three way partnership established by Kyushu Electrical Energy Co., Inc., NYK Line, ITOCHU ENEX CO., LTD., and Saibu Gasoline Co., Ltd., would be the first to function within the Kyushu and Setouchi areas.
KEYS Azalea will present home coastal transport of LNG to customers within the Kyushu and Setouchi areas and LNG bunkering for oceangoing vessels calling ports within the area. That is Japan’s first LNG bunkering venture to provide LNG to vessels on this huge space. The development of the ship was funded by a subsidy adopted beneath MLIT’s FY2021 LNG Bunkering Base Formation Challenge.
KEYS Azalea is Japan’s first LNG bunkering vessel outfitted with a dual-fuel engine that may use each LNG and heavy oil as gas for the primary energy era system.
The 4 corporations and KEYS will proceed to contribute to lowering greenhouse gasoline emissions towards realising a carbon-neutral society.
