Woodfibre LNG to ramp up work at website
In September, Woodfibre LNG crews will start making ready the Howe Sound website for set up of prefabricated modules from China.
Staff will stay in a “floatel” — a former cruise ship that may have 400 to 600 beds.
Nineteen modules will come by sea from Qingdao Metropolis, unfold over two years.
The largest module would be the liquefaction unit that may weigh near 11,000 tonnes.
“We anticipate that the primary module will likely be able to be shipped in late August 2024,” mentioned Woodfibre’s communications director, Sean Beardow.
Woodfibre notes that it’s going to use electrical e-drive engines in its processing. “Woodfibre LNG would be the world’s first net-zero facility when it begins operations in 2027.”
Work may also begin in September on growth of the present FortisBC pipeline that may serve Woodfibre LNG.
Cedar LNG additional research floating plant
The Haisla Nation’s Cedar LNG challenge in B.C. has undertaken a second Entrance Finish Engineering Design (FEED) course of for its floating LNG vessel, and has delayed its remaining funding determination.
“Along with detailed industrial discussions and ongoing negotiations between LNG Canada and Coastal GasLink, this has resulted within the anticipated remaining funding determination being revised to the fourth quarter of 2023.”
Nuclear energy for Indigenous communities?
As Canada plans extra nuclear energy technology, a creating sort of mills — Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) —could possibly be of curiosity to among the 200 or so Indigenous communities in Canada that also must rely on diesel mills for his or her electrical energy.
A key plus of SMRs is that they are often pre-fabricated and shipped to their places, considerably decreasing development prices. They’re scalable, and might be custom-made to go well with remoted areas, areas of restricted electrical want, and websites with restricted water provides.
And so they is also used to energy LNG tasks.
The Macdonald-Laurier Institute says: “A possibility exists for SMRs to supply added financial alternative, environmental alignment and power safety for Indigenous communities, if accomplished accurately.”
And from Useful resource Works: Is it time for BC to go nuclear? It may embrace small modular reactors as game-changers for rural, distant and Indigenous communities.
